Orange Business Services Gears Up to Expand its Telecom Services in India

Orange Business Services, the key brand of France Telecom (News - Alert), is expanding its footprint in India. The company has received a license from that country’s Department of Telecommunications to provide national and international long distance telecom services.

Orange Business services will carry out this major task through its joint venture company Equant Network Services India Private Limited.

As per the terms of license, the company will offer a variety of connectivity and network related services in India including Internet Protocol (IP) virtual private network (VPN), multi-protocol label switching (MPLS), network- related managed services and adaptive network solutions for enterprises.

Sanjay Vig, CEO at Orange’s India business unit, said the company is seeing a good growth in India for the past one year and this move has happened at the right time. According to Vig, the license win will significantly increase the company’s business growth in India and will allow it to serve both global and local customers more effectively.

France Telecom boasts nearly 125 million customers spread over five continents. Through its major international brands, including Orange, Wanadoo, Equant and GlobeCast, France Telecom has been offering a wide array of solutions that span local, long-distance and international telephony, wireless, Internet, multimedia, data, broadcast and cable TV services.

Earlier in July, 2007, France Telecom announced the acquisition of the enterprise and managed services divisions of Indian ICT group GTL. The takeover has further strengthened the presence of Orange Business Services (News - Alert) with both the Indian and multinational clients.
